CASE STUDY: Rebuilding the digital home of a women's entrepreneurship network—from the ground up
About Female Ventures
Female Ventures is a network dedicated to connecting, inspiring, and empowering women in entrepreneurship and business. With city teams across the Netherlands and a growing international community, the organization needed a digital platform that could match its ambition—reliable, coherent, and built to scale.
How it started
I joined Female Ventures in Rotterdam in 2022 as a Marketing & Event Manager volunteer—organizing networking events, developing content, coordinating speakers, and supporting local growth. That ground-level experience gave me a clear picture of what the organization needed strategically and digitally.
In 2023, I moved into the website rebuild project. What followed was a complete transformation.
The situation
The digital setup didn’t reflect the quality of the organization. The WordPress website was outdated, visually inconsistent, and technically unstable—plugins unpaid and malfunctioning, dead-end pages, flashing design elements, and a community section that sat unused. Every event required a separate page on both the website and Eventbrite, creating unnecessary double work for an already stretched team. The website was running on a shared server and crashing regularly.
The organization had the community, the mission, and the momentum. What it lacked was a digital home worthy of it.
The strategic approach
Before touching the website, I mapped the full picture—what was broken, what was missing, what the team actually needed to operate efficiently, and what the platform needed to support as the organization grew. The rebuild wasn’t just a design project. It was a structural and strategic decision about how the organization’s digital ecosystem should work.
From that diagnosis, I led the full transformation:
Platform rebuild & UX strategy Redesigned and rebuilt the WordPress website from scratch—establishing a clear architecture, eliminating dead ends, ensuring visual coherence, and creating a structure the team could maintain without constant technical intervention.
Community activation Assessed and activated the unused community infrastructure through ProfileGrid—integrating it properly into the website and giving members a functional digital home for the first time.
Event workflow simplification Identified the double-work event process as a key operational inefficiency. Resolved it by integrating Eventbrite directly into the website—one input, one source of truth, significantly less manual work for the team.
Email marketing strategy & migration Evaluated the existing email setup and led the migration from MailPoet to GetResponse—securing a non-profit discount and unlocking a more robust set of tools and integrations aligned with the organization’s growth needs.
Automation & ecosystem coherence Built Zapier automations connecting key tools and workflows—ensuring the digital ecosystem functioned as a coherent system rather than a collection of disconnected parts.
SEO & content partnership management Coordinated the integration and ongoing relationship with WP SEO AI—an AI-powered SEO platform that produces optimized blog content, monitors search performance, and provides optimization guidance directly within WordPress. Managing this partnership ensures SEO efforts remain aligned with the broader digital strategy and organizational goals.
Infrastructure decision & hosting migration Diagnosed the recurring website crashes as a hosting issue. Researched alternatives, made the recommendation, and coordinated the migration from a shared server to a dedicated server on NoFrillsCloud—resolving instability and significantly improving performance.
Governance & documentation Developed a Website Manual documenting the full digital setup—structure, integrations, workflows, and governance—so the team had a reliable internal reference and could make platform decisions with clarity going forward.
The ongoing partnership
The 2025 website relaunch wasn’t the end. It was the starting line.
What began as a volunteer contribution evolved into an ongoing strategic partnership. Since the launch, I’ve continued as Website & Digital Platform Manager—maintaining the integrity of the ecosystem, advising on digital tools and workflow decisions, and ensuring every new campaign, integration, and platform update aligns with the broader digital structure we built together.
